1. Google Maps API error: MissingKeyMapError on WordPress

Problem:
My map just disappeared and displayed MissingKeyMapError on my WordPress page.

Solution:
If you are using Google Maps API on localhost since the 2016 Google Maps requires a special API key which you can generate by registering on the Google platform.

creating-api-key

Once you register, you need to create a new project and generate your own key for Google Map. Then you paste the generated code in the required field of your plugin or in the code and it should work properly now. If not, there might be also a problem with the theme or a plugin so we advise also to contact the developers of the plugins.

If you don’t know how to generate your API key and then paste it to the code we advise you to check our tutorial in which you can learn step-by-step how to do it.

2. “This page didn’t load Google Maps correctly”

Problem:
Instead of the displayed map, you see an error “This page didn’t load Google Maps correctly”.

page-didn't-load-corectly

Solution:
To check the problem you can use a ctrl + shift + j shortcut. In our case, it was the InvalidKeyMapError, so just our API key isn’t correct, check it and copy once again if you have the same error.

invalidkeymaperror

There might occur various errors so it depends which one you have. We will not describe all the errors there, but you will find them in the other problems and solutions for sure. After we have pasted the correct API key everything works perfectly.

3. Google Maps API error “MissingKeyMapError” in PrestaShop

Problem:
My PrestaShop Google Maps doesn’t want to display.

Solution:
If you are using Google Maps API since the 2016 Google Maps requires a special API key which you can generate by registering on the Google platform.

creating-api-key

Once you register, you need to create a new project and generate your own key for Google Map. Now, when you have the API key to paste it into your code(screen below).

presta-code
You should do the same but in the PrestaShop Google Maps code. If you are using any module, then there will be for sure a special fields where you can insert the key.

4. Google Maps not working (RefererNotAllowedMapError).

Problem:
I have entered my API key to the code but my Google Maps is still not working.

Solution:
There are most likely two possibilities why you might see this error. First one is when you do not add and enable Google Maps API in your Google platform.

activate-api-project

Second is that you’ve set a list of referrers for your project and you didn’t insert your domain name on it. If it still doesn’t work it may be caused also by the domain name you have inserted before. For example, you should use a full address like https://nearplace.com/ instead of shortened address like nearplace.com. It is strange but Google Maps might not recognize your domain, so be careful with that.

5. How to use street view on Google Maps

Problem:
I can’t use a street view on my Google Maps

Solution:
At first, go to your Map and search for a specific address(you can also do it just in the random place). In the bottom-left corner, you should notice a yellow human icon(pegman). Click on this icon and drag the pegman to the place you want to see in a street view

Problem:
Google Maps doesn’t want to work on my Android device.

Solution:
As we have noticed the majority or not all the problem connected with this problem are on the smartphones made by Samsung company.

There are many solutions for this problem like clearing the cache data, disabling power saving mode, reinstalling Google Maps and its updates, rebooting the device, and many many more which would take much time to describe.

That’s why we will just link you the source where you can find all the information from a person who already has described it in an amazing way:

7. Google Maps API warning: noapikeys

Problem:
Instead of a displayed map, I’m getting a noapikeys error. Why?

Solution:
As the name of the error says you probably don’t have API key, you need to sign up on Google platform and generate one for yourself.

api-key

If you have done it remember to choose the proper project(Google Maps JavaScript API) and then copy your API key correctly to the code.

activate-api-project

There is no way that it will not work if you have done every step properly. Otherwise, contact us so we will help you to fix the problem.

8. Google Maps API error: apinotactivatedmaperror

Problem:
Instead of a map, I see “Google Maps API error: ApiNotActivatedMapError”.

Solution:
You just didn’t activate your API project. Except for the generating API key you have to turn on your Google Maps JavaScript API. You can check the GIF below to see how it looks like and if it isn’t enough information for you check our tutorial about Google Maps.

9. Why is Google Maps so slow?

Problem:
How to make Google Maps load faster since it is sometimes so slow.

Solution:
If the problem occurs only sometimes restarting a computer or browser might be enough to solve the problem. If not you should check the updates, sometimes you might have a too old version of the browser or your computer with the not supported operating system anymore.

If two first options don’t help you should also check your DirectX version. Make sure it is updated to the newest version, otherwise it might be the reason why Google Maps is so slow.

Of course, DirectX isn’t the software which slows your Google Maps but which might boost your graphics to work faster. If it still doesn’t help we advise you to contact someone from the Google or us, so we can brainstorm the solution together.

10. Google Maps API authorization failure

Problem:
I have the API key, pasted into my code and still, the map is not displayed on my website.

Solution:
The solution is simple, to be authorized for your API key, you need to authorize it to use your client ID. What does it mean?

You just need to add URLs of your website to the list so they will be authorized. Also, Google recommends to not authorize the whole URL like Nearplace.com but to authorize specific URL like blog.nearplace.com or just to add URL of every single page so not everyone will be available to use your client ID.

11. Android API v2 Failure

Problem:
Instead of a map on your Android device, you see a grey background which displays nothing.

Solution:
Probably you used the wrong API key, or you not even generated one. Try once again to go to Google platform and sign up/sign in, then generate or copy already generated API key.

12. JavaScript API Application from v2 to v3

Problem:
JavaScript API v2 is not supported anymore, so even if you don’t want to you should get knowledge about how to migrate to v3.

Solution:
To migrate from v2 to v3 at first you need to generate a new API key, without it, you will not do anything.

api-key

Also, you have to update such things like API Bootstrap, and the rest of the code.

Thanks to the JavaScript v3 you will be able to use new various classes and methods which you have never seen before. Also overall the code looks better and easier to understand even by non-coders who want to add few markers to their map.

13. Google Maps API error: InvalidKeyMapError

Problem:
My Map was working and suddenly stopped being displayed and returned InvalidKeyMap Error.

Solution:
The solution is pretty simple and there are two possibilities which caused the problem:

In both of the possibilities, there is only one solution. Go to your Google Platform dashboard and generate/copy your API key which you can paste into the code.

14. “The page was unable to display a Google Maps element”.

Problem:
some people suddenly have returned an error “The page was unable to display Google Maps element” even if the map was already working properly for a long time.

Solution:
There is not one specified solution for this problem, if you occur the error you should check a few things:

As you see you need to check many things to be sure that it isn’t your fault. Some people say that the error disappeared after a while without any changes made, so it also might be a bug which is Google Maps fault.

Anyway if you check everything and don’t find any mistakes in your configuration you should contact Google Support so they can help you individually.

15. Google Maps not working on chrome.

Problem:
Sometimes after Google Chrome updates or even without them, Google Maps doesn’t work on Google Chrome browsers.

Solution:
In the majority of problems, clearing browser cache like cookies and other data solve the problem. If not, also try to log out and log in again to your browser accounts, it also helped many people. You can redownload the browser too, but it shouldn’t change anything if logging in and logging out didn’t help. If our solution will not help you, we advise you to contact Google Support.

16. Error Code: invalidkeyorunauthorizedurlmaperror

Problem:
The map doesn’t work and instead, there is displayed an invalidkeyorunauthorizedurlmaperror problem.

Solution:
The solution is pretty easy – you are running your page on localhost, so the key isn’t really needed. Try it on the public server, it should work without any issues

17. How to block other people’s accounts?

Problem:
I don’t want some people to see my location on a map.

Problem:
You have noticed that the Google Maps direction is totally wrong and you would like to report it to Google, so they can fix it.

Solution:
On the left side menu, you can notice a blue icon with a white arrow – directions button. Click on it, then insert the destination and the point from which you start the travel.

Once you get a route and on the left, you can display step-by-step direction. Once you choose this you should notice a special option in the right bottom corner which is called “send a feedback”. As Google Developers mentioned you can’t report the issue if you are using Maps in lite mode.

20. You have included the Google Maps API multiple times on this page.

Problem:
I’m trying to code Google Maps JavaScript with API and it returns me an error “You have included the Google Maps API multiple times on this page.”

Solution:
At first, check if you don’t add the same multiple Javascript libraries in your <head> section if everything is correct you must be adding a wrong API key or even duplicate someone’s other API.

The most important thing – your API key might be inactive so just in case try to create a new key and check if the Google Maps works now.

creating-api-key

Otherwise, we have no idea what could have happened and if your code is correct, you should just contact Google Support because it might be a bug which happens rarely.

21. Google Maps error: RefererDeniedMapError

Problem:
The map doesn’t work and return the RefererDeniedMapError.

Solution:
There is not a good solution, you need to check on your own if you didn’t get banned for something by Google Maps(you could have broken one of their rules) or also there is a possibility that your free limit has ended and you need to pay for next views on your map.

For more information, you should contact Google Support.

22.Google Maps error: ExpiredKeyMapError

Problem:
Google maps display an error without a map. The error is called ExpiredKeyMapError.

api-key

23. Google Maps error: InvalidClientIdMapError

Problem:
Is the page unable to display your Google Maps? One of the problems might be an error called InvalidClientIdMapError.

Solution:
The error means that the client ID which you use in your script for your API is wrong or it expired. You should check it on Google Platform and if the client ID is the expired type to Google and they should reactivate your key within 24 hours. And remember that if you don’t have Google Maps work license you should use your API key with key parameter instead of the client parameter.

24. Google Maps error: ProjectDeniedMapError

Problem:
A map is not displayed and return an error: ProjectDeniedMapError.

Solution:
Probably you haven’t activated your Google Maps JavaScript API project in your Google Platform. Check if this is activated and then if you generated a proper key for your project.

activate-api-project

If the error still occurs you should contact Google Support to get more individually help. If you have another account you can also check if the map works with the other API key.

25. Google map error: ApiProjectMapError

Problem:
Google Maps doesn’t work on my WordPress website and returns ApiProjectMapError.

Solution:
This error is displayed in many cases but the most popular ones are that your project is not activated or you activated the wrong project on your Google Platform.

For Google Maps you need to activate the Google Maps JavaScript API project and generate a special API key which you will insert into a raw code or some special plugins. When it comes to WordPress the error might also occur once you change your API key.

activate-api-project

When you want to insert the new API key you should turn off all the plugins and then activate all at once when you insert your key where it is required. Why? Because other plugins might still remember the old API key and there will be a conflict between a new and old API if you don’t set everything properly.

26. Google Maps API warning: retiredversion

Problem:
Google Maps doesn’t display on my website and returns a retiredversion error.

Solution:
The solution in the case of this error is pretty easy. There is a possibility that you have to generate your new API key because the old one has expired, or also you need to change your code because you might have a retired version in your script element.

At the moment the recommended version of the script element is 3.31.

The error might also occur because of the wrong or missing referrers so also be careful about adding URLs.

27. Google Maps API warning: invalidversion

Problem:
Google Maps API warning: invalidversion displayed instead of the map.

Solution:
Probably you are using a wrong version of your script element which you include in your code. Check the newest versioning and update your script. If it doesn’t work you should check if your API key didn’t expire and if you don’t have to generate a new one.

28. Google Maps API warning: signedinnotsupported

Problem:
The map is displayed but I can notice signedinnotsupported error.

Solution:
You shouldn’t be worried about this problem anymore because the problem was a signed_in parameter which isn’t supported by Google anymore. So if you still have this parameter in your code, just remove it and the error should be fixed or just ignore it if you want.

Sources for more information:
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages

29. How to fix UrlAuthenticationCommonError

Problem:
Google Maps is not appearing on the website page and returns UrlAuthenticationCommonError.

Solution:
Probably it is only a temporary problem not always caused by you. Wait a while and try again to make a request and the map should work.

Also, check if you have generated an API key and activated your JavaScript Google Maps API project because without it map also cannot work. If the problem doesn’t disappear after a long time you should probably contact Google Developers to get a help individually.

activate-api-project

30. Google Maps error: SignatureNotRequired

Problem:
My Google Maps displays SignatureNotRequired in the developer console.

Solution:
The solution is easy, as the error says the signature parameter is not required for the Maps JavaScript API. Even with this parameter, Google Map will still work but as the developers say it might occur some security risks, so better just remove the parameter if it is not required for our map.

31. Why can’t I add my business to Google Maps?

Problem:
Somehow I can’t add my physical stores to the Google Maps.

Solution:
The solution is simple, probably someone has already added your address as his own business. If the address is yours you should contact with Google and after a confirmation, they should add the address as yours.

You can read more about business and listings in our tutorial about how to manage multiple locations with Google My Business.

32. You do not have permission to create this API Key.

Problem:
When you want to generate a new key there is displayed an error with “You do not have permission to create this API Key” message.

Solution:
The problem is really annoying but there is a possibility to solve it by clicking on credentials which you can find on the left side of the menu in your Google Platform.

Click “Create credentials” and choose the API Key option. The last step is clicking on the “browser key” button and then you should be able to create a key without any problems. If the solution didn’t help we advise you to contact the Google Support.creating-api-key

33. “Google Maps server error, please try again later”.

Problem:
Sometimes during the changes, you make on the Google Maps, you can meet a Google Maps server error.

Solution:
There is not a real solution which would remove the problem permanently. It just happens when you want to edit some things such as markers, filters and other things randomly.

The error also might occur when you lose an internet connection. Sadly Google Maps still doesn’t have the offline mode where you may save your changes, so probably once you get this error your recent changes might be lost :(.

34. I can’t embed my Google Maps in HTML.

Problem:
I tried to embed my map but I don’t know how or it doesn’t work.

Solution:
Go to your Google Maps and once you’re done with the changes click on the “share or embed map” button which you can find on the left side menu.

html-embed-google-map

Choose the “Embed a map” tab and then you can choose the size of the map and copy the code. Paste the Google Maps code into your raw code and everything should work correctly. If you are using CMS platform you can check our tutorials for each of the most popular systems(WordPress for example – just instead of store locator script paste the Google Maps code).

Once to code does not work you should check many values like the size of the map(if it fits your website) or your own HTML code – maybe you have some errors in your own code and because of them, Google Maps is not working.

35. How to send a pin in Google Maps – mobile devices

Problem:
I would like to share a pin with friends and other people to show them the location I’m interested in, but I don’t know how.

Solution:
We are afraid that sharing the pin is only available for mobile devices. At first, you have to search for a place which you want to show, then hold your finger on the location you have chosen before to drop a pin.

Once you’ve done it, you can tap the place’s name or its address at the bottom. Then if you want to share your pin with others just tap the “share” button.

36. Picasa failed to initialize Google Maps

Problem:
Google Maps in Picasa returns a message “ Picasa failed to initialize Google Maps. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet”

Solution:
The problem is common that’s why creators of picasa have developed an update which should have solved the problem. Make sure you have the latest version of Picasa. If the problem still occurs try to re-install the program.

Also if you are still using IE make sure it is in the latest version too.

37. Google Maps API error: apinotactivatedmaperror

Problem:
My Google Maps doesn’t work on my website and returns Google Maps API error: apinotactivatedmaperror.

Solution:
As the name of the error says everything you need to do is to activate your JavaScript Google Maps API project. Without it even if you generate somehow an API key the map will not work anyway, so always remember to activate the projects you are going to use.

activate-api-project

38. Google Maps API warning: sensornotrequired

Problem: Google Maps returns a Google Maps API warning: sensornotrequired. What should I do?

Solution: You just need to remove the sensor parameter from your JavaScript code because it is no longer supported by Google Maps. So it is recommended to remove the sensor the map even if the map displays properly.

Sources for more information: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages

39. Google Maps API error: DeletedApiProjectMapError

Problem:
Google Map is not working and returns DeletedApiProjectMapError.

Solution: It is common and simple to resolve the problem. As the name of error says you probably have deleted, disabled or not even created your API project yet.

To activate the API project you need to sign up on Google Developer Platform and then find JavaScript Google Maps project. If it is disabled you need to enable it and the map should be working. activate-api-project

Also, don’t forget to generate your API key which you include in your code, otherwise map might be also not working.

40. How to turn on voice on Google Maps?

Problem: I’m using a Google Maps navigation while driving a car but I can’t hear anything.

Solution:
To turn on voice on Google Maps at first check the most obvious thing – if you turned on your device’s volume. Then check if the voice is turned on in the Google Maps by opening an app and start navigation. In the top right corner, you will notice a sound icon which you can turn on or turn off.

Also in the menu, you can find navigation settings where you can also modify the sound of your Google Maps application.

If you want, you can also connect your car speakers with the app through USB or Bluetooth. These options also can be found in the navigation settings. It is really simple to connect the phone with speakers so you will be fine on your own.

The last thing required to hear the voice from the Google Maps app is to have an internet connection if you can’t afford to do it online, you can download the directions before driving.

41. Google Maps API marker is not working

Problem:
I’m trying to add markers through the JavaScript code but it doesn’t want to work.

Solution:
Adding markers through API isn’t really hard. Make sure that you have activated your Google Maps JavaScript project in the Google Developer Platform

activate-api-projectand then generated an API key without which your map probably will not work.

api-key

If it comes to the coding, just read our tutorial about it(API method) and everything should be clear. If you have any questions feel free to contact us.

42. WordPress Google Map doesn’t want to display markers

Problem:
I’m trying to add my markers through the Google Maps on WordPress and they aren’t displayed on the map.

Solution:
At first, you should check a few things:

Once you are using a 3rd party Google Maps plugin you should probably contact the developer of the addon or at first try the other plugin and see if it doesn’t work too. Then you will be sure if there is an issue with your map or the plugin.

In the case of embedding the Google Maps without any plugin, everything should work correctly if you copy the entire iframe code from Google Map and paste to the text editor of your page.

Remember to make sure that you have generated your API key and activated API project for Google Maps if you are trying to display markers with JavaScript!

activate-api-project

Also if you are coding on your own you can compare the markers code with our tutorial code here.

43. Google Maps giving wrong directions

Problem:
Google Maps is giving me bad directions. How can I fix it?

Solution:
Make sure that you have your compass calibrated properly or if something is not interfering with it. Anyway, in this case, the Google Maps should at least show you some warning that something wrong is happening.

Also, clear your phone’s cache and if you have bought a phone in other regions than yours that also might be causing a problem. After clearing the cache reboot your phone and check if it works. Also check the updates on the app store or some hotfixes, which you could have missed.

45. Google Maps doesn’t show my locations when shared with a public link.

Problem:
I pinned a few locations and everything works correctly until I don’t try to share it through the public link.

Solution:
If the map from the link works but the pin drop doesn’t at first you should check if you copied the link properly, without any not needed spacebars, dots etc.

If it still doesn’t work try to make a new map and generate a new public link, and it should work now. If not we advise you to contact Google Support so they can find the solution for you individually.

46. Google Maps marker icon does not work.

Problem:
I tried to add markers through JavaScript code and everything works correctly until I want to add the icons to my markers.

Solution:
Adding an icon shouldn’t be troublesome and you need to use “icon:” value in your marker function to make it work. To make it easier you can just compare your code with the code from our tutorial which teaches people how to add multiple markers to Google Maps.

47. How to embed a map through JavaScript API.

Problem:
I don’t know how to display Google Maps on my website thanks to the JavaScript code.

Solution:
Adding a map through JavaScript with Google Maps is pretty simple. At first, just in case generate your API key on Google Platform and activate your JavaScript Google Maps API project otherwise, your further actions with the map might not be working.

activate-api-project

Just check the screen below with the code which you should add and everything should work correctly.

48. Blank Google Maps

Problem:
I just visited the Google Maps on my computer and instead of a map, I see only a grey background.

Solution:
Why is Google Maps blank? Probably because your cookies got messed up and you should just clear all the cache from your browser and everything should work correctly now.

If not, in the case of Google Chrome you can go deeper into Content settings and see all cookies and site data you have generated on your browser. You can notice that there is a special search field, try to type Google domain name and then you will find all the data related to Google. Just remove it by clicking on “X” and now it must be working!

49. How to connect Google Maps to car

Problem:
I would like to connect Google Maps with my car but I really don’t have an idea how to do it.

Solution:
At first, you need to go to google.com/maps/sendtocar and sign in to your account. Then just click the button “Add a car” and choose your car manufacturer and insert your account ID. If you still don’t know your ID you need to sign up on your car manufacturer’s car website. Just add an alias for your car to navigate it easily in the future and confirm the changes. Now your car should be connected with Google Maps!

50. Google Maps not working on iPhone 6

Problem:
Google Maps is not working on my iPhone 6 after upgrading it to the latest version. When I’m trying to navigate myself to any location the arrow point is not moving from the starting point.

Solution:
There are some solutions which helped some people and we will try to describe them to you. First one is to go to the settings, then “Google Maps” and enabling the “Background App Refresh” thanks to which the map should be refreshing itself now everytime you send a request.

If it doesn’t really work for you there is also another possibility – go to the settings as before choose the “compass” and turn on the “True North” option. As we can notice it works for some people and it doesn’t work for some, hopefully, it will help you fix the problem.

Hopefully, our article helped you to solve the problem which you had with the Google Maps. We are planning to extend the guide by even more problems in the future, so if you have any important issues with Google Maps let us know, and we will add it to our listing.
