But before we are going to show you how to get your own Google Maps javascript API key, you will have to create a Google Maps project and billing account or use already existing one. Now if you are prepared for it, then just follow our guide, which you will find below.

1. Create own Google Maps Project

Before you are going to generate Google Map API key, first of all, what you have to do is enabling the Google Maps platform.

You can do it by going to a GMaps cloud where you need to click on the “Get started” button.

After clicking a button from the previous step, another window will occur. The window will contain 3 markers, which are responsible for different features – depending on how much of them you will choose, it will affect what services API key will provide.

The first one option “Maps” is responsible for Maps and Streetview services.

To the APIs, which are included belongs:

The second option “Routes” is providing Directions, Distance Matrix, and Roads services.

The third option “Places” is offering Place Details, Current Place, Find Place, Geocoding, Geolocation and Time Zone.

Of course, we recommend you to select all 3 options, because of the practical benefits coming from using API key for Google Maps with all the features which were mentioned above. When you will choose the options, then just click on the “Continue” button.

The next thing what you will have to do is selecting your own Google Maps project or creating the new one. When you are going to do it, just click on the “Next” inscription. From that position, you are done with creating GMaps project – what means that you are one step closer to get Google Map API key.

2. Create billing account

Now when you are done with creating a Google Maps Platform project, the next thing what you have to do is creating own billing account.

After clicking the inscription from the previous step, it will take you to the other website, where the window will appear. In that window, you will have to click on the “Create billing account” inscription

The previous step will take you on the beginning settings of your billing account. At the first, you will have to set up your country location and then agree with the Google Cloud Platform Free Trial Terms of Service. When you are going to do it, just click on “Agree and continue” button.

At this place, you will have to fill out all the required information like personal data and credit card id. When you are done with it, just click on the “Start my free trial button” – at this point you are done with billing account and there are only a few steps left to get Google API key.

3. Get Google Map API key

When you are done with creating Google Maps project and billing account, we are going to finally show you how to get Google Maps API key.

After creating a billing account, you will be moved to the other website, where you will see a window which is letting you enable Google API. All that you need to do at this point is click on the “Next” inscription.

By clicking “Next” inscription from the previous step, it will take you to the other window, where your enabled map API key will appear. From that point, you are done with it and you can enjoy your own Google Map JavaScript API key.

1. The window won’t appear after creating a billing account

At the first point, when you are in your project dashboard, you will have to hover over the “APIs & Services” tab from the menu, which will be on your left. It will show a drop-down bar, from which you will have to choose the last one option called “Credentials”. When you are going to do it, you will be moved to another website. From that point, to create Google Map API key, you will have to click on the “Create credentials” button and from the drop-down bar select the “API key” option.

When you are going to click on the “API key” option, it will take you to another website, where will window appear with your own free Google API key. But that’s not the end – if you want Google Maps JavaScript API key to work properly, you will have to enable an option in your Google Cloud Platform settings.

To enable Maps JavaScript API, you will have to hover over the “APIs & Services” tab from the menu, which will be on your left. It will show a drop-down menu, from which you will have to choose the second option called “Library”. When you are going to do it, you will be taken to another website where you will have to write in the search field a “Maps JavaScript API” inscription. After writing it, you will see a tile with “Maps JavaScript API” settings, on which you will have to click. When you are done with it, you are going to be moved at another page, in which you will have to click on “Enable” button to make your Google Maps API browser key work properly.

2. My project will somehow disappear

From the project dashboard, you will have to hover over the “APIs & Services” tab from the menu, which will be on your left. It will show a drop-down bar, from which you will have to choose the last one option called “Credentials” – when you are going to do it, you will be moved to the other website. At this point, you will see the window from which you will have to click on the “Create” button, to create a Google Map project. It will take you to another website, where you will have to write in the first field, the name of your project and from the second one, select a location for a Google Cloud Platform project. When you are done with it, just click on “Create” button – if you still want to generate API key from that point, just follow the next steps.

By clicking on “Create” button from the previous step, you will be taken to another website, where you will have to click on the “Create credentials” button. When you are going to do it, the drop-down bar will occur. From that menu just choose the “API key” option.

When you are done with the previous step, you will see another window with your own GMaps API key. But wait – that’s not the end, if you want Google JavaScript API key to work properly, you will have to enable an option in your Google Cloud Platform settings.
