If you want to try out PrestaShop, and you want to avoid paying for hosting, you can check out the demo version. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to install a free store locator to PrestaShop.
The installation of PrestaShop store locator
After generating a Google Maps store locator script, you need to go to the PrestaShop dashboard and in category “Improve”, you should find the “Design” option. After hovering the cursor on it you will notice the drop-down bar, from which you have to choose “Theme & Logo” option. When you are done with it, it will redirect you to another website, where you need to choose the “Export current theme” button.
When you are done with downloading a theme, you will have to extract the files, and then find out the location of the .tpl header file. After finding it, you need to edit this document and search for the location of the main container. When you are done with it, first of all, you will have to add literal tags (don’t forget about them, because without it, your Google Maps store locator script won’t work) and then paste in your store locator script.
When you are going to do it, you need to close the whole files which belong to the theme, and then compress them. After it, you need to back to the PrestaShop website and click on the button “Add new theme”.
After clicking the button from the last step, it will redirect you to another site, where you will have to add your compressed file, and then just click the “Save” button. This is all that you have to do, just check at the preview if the website locator is working.
Summarising, PrestaShop is an e-commerce platform on which, to add an addon, you need to have some more knowledge than in the case of adding an extension to the other Content Management Systems. But if you have relevant information (which you can get by using this tutorial) how to add an addon, you can easily make a really great functioning map store.
