Except only telling you about the tools we will also learn you how to use every map creator below effectively.

5 The Most Interesting Map Creator Tools.

5. Uebermaps

Uebermaps is the first tool which we are going to describe. The map creator looks really simple and interesting, so it might be a good solution for people who are just starting with map creators. At the beginning you need to register on the developer’s website to use the tool. Once you have registered there will be displayed a really nice looking dashboard on which you can see your maps, maps which you follow, your notifications and maps which you collaborate. Above every panel you have a red button which allows you to start creating a new map.

Once you click the button, you will be directed to the map view on which you can do various things, but at first on the left side you might notice fields like map name, map description and map privacy thanks to which you can set your map details for your own preferences. You can also upload a map photo what is also a nice feature to have especially if you have some unique photos connected with your mark. There are also available special advanced settings which allow you to set permissions for visitors or invited people. You might even set the map only to the view mode or grant privileges to edit the entire map or specified things like a photo by others.

Once you are done with creating the map there will be displayed a little tutorial prepared by the developer which shows  what can you do with the tool. The interface is pretty easy to use. On the left side instead of the map create option, now you have a list of your spots created by you, media which you uploaded, comments and also upcoming events if you created any.

Once you have acknowledged the interface already, to create a map marker you need to click on the button in the left bottom corner.

After clicking the button you can notice a new list, which appeared on the right side, there are not many options but it’s enough to create map markers which will be useful for your store locator or other things which require multiple locations. Thanks to the geolocation after clicking on “My Location” and allowing the tool to know your position, you can notice a marker with your current localization. It isn’t too useful once you want to create a store locator so let’s go to the second option called “find in map”. Is is the search filter in which you can insert location which you are interested with. For example, we found a location in Berlin and put a map marker there by clicking “add spot” button which is located in the bottom of the map.

Once you click the button there will be displayed another fields where you can enter an address or coordinates to position your marker perfectly. When you put a map marker down you can edit its name, add website URL and description so other people might read easily what is the marker for.

Once you are done with an editing map marker you just need to press the “create” button and the marker will appear in your spots.

That’s all about the functionality of the tool, as you can notice it is really simple and looks pretty good so we advise you to check this map creator before you decide which tool is the best choice for you.

4. uMap

A second interesting tool which might allow you to create your own store locator or sightseeing locations to visit is uMap. Once you visit a website of the developer you should notice a big button in the top-right corner on which you can notice a description  “Create a map”.

After clicking on the button which is on the screenshot above, you will be directed to the map without any questions.

Now you can notice you have many options on the left and right side. If it comes to the left side of the map you have available features like zoom, search location, share map, fullscreen view, change background any many more so the tool has many useful options which might help you to make your map more attractive for other users.

Once it comes to the functionalities like adding markers to your locations or drawing something important you should focus on the right side.

There are many other functionalities, but as the title of the article says we will focus only on adding multiple locations so thanks to it you might create e.g. a store locator in easy and attractive graphical UI. Once you are ready to start adding locations the only thing required to add a marker is clicking the icon which is marked on a screen below.

The tool offers various possibilities of adding a marker. You can add a point just by clicking on the random place on the map, by using search filter or if you want to have perfectly placed marker you should use coordinates which you can find e.g. on Google Maps.

Once you put a marker down and click on it there will be displayed additional customization features on the right side which will allow you to change everything you want.

As you can notice there are basic fields like name and description so the customers of your store will notice every information you want to show them after they click on a marker.  There is a possibility to change color (hex color codes are working too), icon shape, or default zoom level. We mentioned earlier that you also have an option named “Coordinates” thanks to it you can paste data from e.g. Google Maps and the marker will be positioned automatically on the place which you have chosen. On the screenshot below you can notice how much you are able to change an icon of the marker.

Last available customization features which weren’t mentioned earlier are interaction options which might help you to change popup style and label direction. Another two possibilities, let you to decide if you want to display a label on mouse hover or not and if labels are clickable or not.

Of course, if you are not a fan of adding everything manually or if you have a really big amount of locations to add there is an available import option which might save you a lot of time. We will not describe it in details so there you have a screenshot with all possible fields once you want to import something.

Last worth to mention feature which might be useful when you want to create a map with multiple locations is a possibility to change the background of the map. Thanks to it your map might look a bit different than the basic view. The developer offers a lot of templates so you should find one for you.

Summarising uMap tool which allows you to create maps with multiple locations looks really good and attractive, especially for the people who are just starting to make their own store locators or a trip locators. It has many map templates so everyone should find something for themselves or for his customers and the marker settings are pretty easy. Once you are done with editing you can save your map and there will be generated special link if you want to continue your work with the map. Overall we rate this tool really positive so it might be worth for you to check its features.

3. Mapme

Mapme is another map creator which might help you to build your own store locator. It is the paid tool, but you can test it easily for free and see what basic features it offers. Once you create an account on the website of the developer (it is required if you want to create your map) you will notice a dashboard (screenshot below) where you can create a new map. Although you can only create one map with a free user account, you will have a possibility to check all free features anyway.

Once you create your map you will be directed to the user interface which allow you to create new locations and map markers. We must admit the interface looks pretty good and simple, so there shouldn’t be any issue with understanding everything even for beginners.

On the left side of graphical UI you can notice a bar “Map Overview” after clicking it in the middle of interface there will be displayed special fields which might help you to define informations about the map. You can name your map, change the description, add header logo or image and type by who is created the map and URL of your website if you have it.

Once you’re done with editing your map details now time to add some locations, you have a possibility to do it by clicking on the bar below the “Map Overview” on which you can notice “Add Location”. To make it easier, we have made a screenshot for you which you can check below.

Once you click the bar, an additional bar will be added and on the right side there will be displayed details of the location (in the same way as it was with the map overview). You can change information like the location name, address, marker customization, description and many other details about which we will type below. When it comes to the name there isn’t anything to describe, but once you want to add a specified address there is a lot of possibilities there. If you click on the field, there will be displayed another mini-map on which you can choose your location or you just can add special coordinates from e.g. Google Maps if you want to have automatically added marker.

There are also available many marker customization options which might be really useful if you want to make your store locator more attractive and unique compared to the others. You can decide the color of the marker and size. You can also define if the marker will be an icon or also an image (image possible only for premium plans) and you can choose its shape.

Under the marker customization options you can also type a description of your location like contact information, etc. The amazing feature is a possibility to add a special button to which you might add your website URL and if the customer click and the button there will be displayed your website in a new special window.

Of course you can decide if you want to open a link in the current tab or in the new one.

Last worth to mention feature is possibility to add image, video or 3D media so your store locator might show customers how the store looks in a more friendly way. You can notice every change which is done by you on a  special preview map on the right side of the interface.

Summarising the map creator looks awesome and it is really simple when it comes to the usage so we advise you to check it before you make a decision which map tool you should choose to create your own store locator.

2. Snazzy Maps

Snazzy Maps is a relatively new map creator which allows you to add multiple locations and the tool is still marked as a beta version, but features and appearance of the creator are too good to not describe it. The first option to set is a map style which we want to apply to our store locator. If you have your favorite style and you know its name you can use a search field which will allow you to find it much faster, if not you can sort everything by popularity, name or search style by tags and color. You have almost 3500 pages of styles to check! So you should find something for your preferences. Once you have an account on the website of the developer you can save your styles or add some to favorites.

Once you’ve chosen a style which should fit your store locator, now it’s time for size and location feature. You can find here various options like changing the width and height of the map. The developer warns that the size of your map depends on the HTML and CSS on your website so you should be really careful with the values of these parameters otherwise your website or store locator might not handle it. Another feature is a “center location” where you can define the default place which is displayed when the map is opened. You can do it in two different ways – by adding coordinates or by typing a specific location into the search field and it will automatically search for the coordinates of the location which you inserted. Last option available there is a default zoom level, which you can also change with the mouse scroll.

Finally, there comes our favorite feature – marker customization. Obviously the first available option is a name change of the marker. After setting a name you can define the location of a marker also in two different ways. You might do it by adding coordinates from e.g. Google Maps and it will automatically place the mark in this location or you can just use a search filter which will help you to find a place which interests you and then convert it to coordinates and place a marker depending on them.

There are also really extended features which helps you to modify an icon of your marker, you can choose between 5 different styles prepared by the developer or you can just import your custom image to make marker more unique. You can also change its color and size like in every other map creator.

The last section is the configuration of the map, where you can set the default language, map type, controls and behavior like turning on keyboard shortcuts, panning, etc. When you want to set map type you have a possibility to choose between roadmap, hybrid, satellite or terrain view.

Summarising, even if the map creator by Snazzy Maps is still in beta version, in our opinion it is one of the best map tools because the interface looks awesome and really simple. Thanks to the interface mentioned above a creator is also really easy in usage. A big advantage of this map creator is a clear map preview on the right side which is instantly updated after every change we make. We advise you to try this tool because it might be a great opportunity to build a really attractive store locator for your website.

1. BatchGeo

Batchgeo is probably the most popular map creator at the moment. We guess it is because of its really functional interface and simpleness in usage. As the developer says on the website they have over 25000 people using BatchGeo everyday with over 10000000 maps already created! Also many people are using this tool to create their own store locator so we will describe how you can do it.

As it was said earlier the interface looks really simple, you have one white window where you should paste data from your csv file, to import everything to the map. There are available validate and set options which will allow you to display every data in the way you want. You can choose the default region, and in what order things like city, state, zip, etc. will be displayed on the map, if you don’t want something you just can choose the option “none”. Next to the settings there is a small preview box thanks to which we can easily check how our marker information will look for a customer.

Once it isn’t enough for you and you would like to make the map with more details there are also available advanced settings which allow you to change things like the title of the map, marker description columns, location of the image etc. You can also define if the label for markers should be numbers or letters and the type of the map (hybrid, satellite, street, terrain). There are many other settings, which you can check on their website and also on our screenshot below.

Last options possible to change are colors for your example groups(you can choose a color for each group you have). There are also available 3 different shapes of a marker which you can choose and 6 different map styles so you should easily find a map template which would fit your store locator perfectly.

Once you set all the options for your own preferences, let’s try to create a map. If you don’t have your data in csv file yet but you would like to check how the creator works we advise you to use the developer’s example file which you can download right below the white window which is used to import everything. Once you have a file, just copy everything from it to the window mentioned earlier and click “Map Now”. Once you generate a map, there will pop a window with title, description and e-mail fields. The developer will also ask you if you want to make your map public. Once you fill every field you want, click the “Save Map” button. Once you’ve done it, the link to the map will be sent on your e-mail account.

When you click on the link to the map you can see a map with every location you imported on it.

Here you can also check how it looks for a customer if he wants to see all the locations listed by you.

Summarising, BatchGeo is really simple and functional tool which works great especially when you want to generate maps in a short matter of time with all of your locations from the file. Its popularity also shows that the tool is a really reliable map creator. For an additional 99$ per month you can also unlock many more features which might help you to make your map even better than before.

What about Google My Maps?

Google My Maps is also a really useful tool to create, store locators or to mark sightseeing places. Why do we need professional map creators then? There are a few reasons but the most important is an easiness of creating a map and also a time which we spend on creating maps for our store locator. You can do many things with Google My Maps but if you don’t have any idea about the tool it might cost you a lot of time to understand all features and to use them effectively. For example, with Snazzy Maps or BatchGeo you just have 3 or 4 steps needed to create a map and to be honest the only thing you have to do is importing a data, or manually adding markers. Of course it is possible also in Google My Maps but in our opinion, it would have taken too much time and some features and styles aren’t that expanded like on the professional map creators.

The advantage of Google My Maps sometimes is a price because some of professional tools might cost us some money, and with the tool created by Google you don’t really have to pay for anything especially if you want to have a small store locator. Summarising we advise you to use both tools and choose one which fits you the most, as it was said earlier learning Google My Maps will take you much more time, but if you are decided to learn how to use Google My Maps, you should check our guide which will teach you step by step how to create your own store locator on this tool. It might save you a lot of time which is really important nowadays.

I don’t really want to create a Store Locator on my own..

We fully understand that some people don’t have enough time or just can’t be bothered with creating their own store locator. That’s why some developers put an effort to create  professional store locator apps which will do everything for you and the only thing you have to do is import the data and describing markers. Relatively new and one of the best store locators is a Nearplace which allows you to create your own locator almost without any effort. Thanks to the app’s widget you can display your stores on every subpage you want and if a customer is interested in the map direction there is also on-page locator which you can have on a special subpage. Expect really expanded features which you might not see in map creators there are also really functional add-ons. Thanks to them you can easily add information to your store, divide them for each store and insert your pictures on the store’s page.

Also, if there are any new custom hours because of e.g. holiday or you can’t offer specific services for some matter of time with the Nearplace you can easily inform about it a customer. With map creator in the worst case you would have to change everything manually and that might cost a lot of money if you have many stores with many customers. If you would like to see how the Nearplace works there are some add-ons and features which are totally free and they might allow you to create competitive store locator without any cost and then you can eventually buy extended add-ons which are in really reasonable price. To try Nearplace there is required registration on the website.

Google My Maps and map creator tools are a great opportunity to start your journey with store locators. They are also great for sightseeing or directing you to the specific places in foreign country or other city, but once your company is growing you should look for more professional store locators. With a big number of stores it might be hard to make fast adjustments on a map creator and you might lose some customers. Of course it is possible to manage everything through e.g. Google My Maps but there is too much effort with it honestly. The big advantage of the professional apps is also a support which might help with any issues you have. Of course disadvantage for some people is that the professional apps are almost always paid, but there are also free solutions and if you have to pay for something you should have a guarantee that the tool will work perfectly for you that’s why  the developers of the paid apps are still trying to improve them for your preferences.

Hopefully our guide about the map creators will help you to choose the best tool which allows you to create e.g. store locator, also by comparing them to Google My Maps and professional store locator apps we tried to show you that there are other interesting possibilities about which you might think when you want to mark places for sightseeing or create a locator which will bring many customers.
